Held Up tells the story of a bored bank teller’s life-changing experience when two teams of idiot bank robbers—disguised as Rocky I, Rocky II, Batman, and Robin, hold up his branch. As the series proceeds, the hostages fall victim to a comedic version of the Stockholm Syndrome and begin sympathizing with their dim-witted captors.
The new comedy is based on a 2008 television pilot created by Gene Hong that Sony Pictures Television produced for Comedy Central. When the project reverted back to Sony, the Sklar brothers, who were cast in the original project, came on as writer-eps for the web series.
The series is produced by Jamie Tarses and stars It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson, The League‘s Nick Kroll, and The Sarah Silverman Program‘s Steve Agee, with Cyrs Farmer, Jon Dore, Suzy Nakamura, Eddie Pepitone, Har Mar Superstar, Tig Notaro, and the Sklar Brothers themselves.
Sony Pictures Television Senior Vice President of Digital Networks Eric Berger commented, “Held Up takes original web comedy to a whole new level, with smart, sharp dialogue delivered by a cast of comedic pros, and the high production value that people have come to expect from Crackle programming.” Three of the the 16 episodes will debut September 7, with new episodes airing every weekday until September 24.
