HBO Parody Shows You ‘How To Make It On YouTube’

Inspired by HBO drama How To Make It In America

—which follows two enterprising twenty-somethings as they try to succeed in the competitive New York fashion scene—sketch group the SAX show just launched a trailer yesterday for a new parody web series How To Make It On YouTube.

The drama-comedy follows a group of recent high school graduates as they try to make it big on YouTube, following them on their journey to internet stardom as they encounter all the usual challenges in the struggle to get noticed among the vast swath of video: “accounts getting closed or hacked, balancing life and YouTube, and more importantly, trying to get people watching your videos that you worked so hard on.”

“In 2010 trying to become a YouTube success is a full time job, that requires hard work, dedication, networking, and a thick skin,” said series creator David Jewell, who is an 18-year old college student. Co-produced by Detroit-based SAX and Rebellious Productions, How To Make It On YouTube is a series “for anyone who has uploaded a YouTube video, anyone who wants to become a partner, anyone who has put their all into a video and gotten no views, for anyone who would do anything to make it on YouTube. It’s a true underdog story.”

The series is currently in production, scheduled to wrap next week and begin releasing later this month. Support the show on Kickstarter (see video).
