Jason Priestley Helming 'The Lake' For WB, Generate

Former 90210 star Jason Priestley is jumping behind the camera this summer to direct a new teen drama web series, The Lake, for Warner Brothers and cross-platform studio Generate.

The series is currently in pre-production and casting notices have popped up on Breakdown Services. There’s a fair amount of info on the series through the breakdowns, including the following synopsis:

THE LAKE is a serialized drama about four families who over two generations have spent every summer together at Lake Eleanor. While these teens and their parents only see each other for three months of every year, their rich and complicated history has seen friendships forged, romance bloom, and hearts broken. Being a teenager is hard, and our kids will struggle with the universal questions of identity: “Who am I?” and “Who do I want to be?” Spending the summer away from “real life” gives our characters the chance to reinvent themselves, to present a different face to the world, and ultimately, to discover who they are as they experience the emotional process of growing up.

The four families appear to be the adroitly aristocratic Wellings, Davenports, Campbells and Markmans.  Also notable in the breakdown is that six of the roles are looking for “18 to play younger,” which of course means this is shaping up to be a high school series, presumably in the vein of the new 90210

.

This won’t be Priestley’s first time in the director’s chair, having most recently directed this season’s intense episode of the new 90210, “Off the Rails,” which saw Jessica Stroup‘s character in the midst of a bi-polar breakdown.

Writing duo Meredith Lavender and Marcie Ulin are listed as showrunner scribes, with Bernie Mac Show producer Michael Petok serving as Executive Producer. The shoot dates for the 12-episode series are listed as May 26 through June 12th and it’s likely to be a late summer release on TheWB.com.
