'Private High Musical' Gets Lyrically Raunchy

Trends in web television work pretty much like they do in the rest of Hollywood, albeit a bit faster. We were all blown away by the musical summer sitebuster Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, whose lyrical melodies won over millions, and introduced a whole new genre to the web. It’s soundtrack even belted its way to #2 on the iTunes music download charts and the Billboard Top40 earlier this month.

Now looking to follow in Dr. H’s musical footsteps comes the raunchy Private High Musical, a new series created by and starring Sorority Forever star Taryn Southern (Senior Skip Day).  It’s being billed as a racy spoof of Disney’s High School Musical franchise, as “America’s most beloved musical gets a real life makeover in this unapologetic series of what really goes down in high school.”

Southern stars as Sandra Smith, a shy but intelligent transfer student whose only goal for the year is to lose her

virginity. No surprise, but this one definitely isn’t for family viewing, with the episode titles making no secret about where this one is heading: “First Period,” “Locker Room Lovin'” and “Smokin’ Weed” to name a few. Rounding out the teen cast are a mix of up-and-coming actors and musicians including Robert Adamson (Lincoln Heights), Lauren Mayhew (Raise Your Voice), Mark Hapka (Ghost Whisperer), Universal Music artist Marisa Lauren, and The Perfect Victim frontman Jeff D’Agostino. Oh, and what high school comedy would be complete without Mr. Belding himself, Dennis Haskins?

Produced by Redband Industries, the trailer (above) to the series was just released, with Episode 1 set to debut October 2nd. New episodes will come out every Thursday, coinciding halfway through with the heavily hyped film release of the show’s inspiration, High School Musical 3 on October 24th. Distribution partners for the show are said to be YouTube, Heavy, Break, blip.tv and MySpaceTV.
