It’s really a job for William Sledd. The 24-year-old, ultra-fab, out-of-the-closet, pretty-in-pink YouTube phenom and amateur fasshionista would be the Internet’s perfect envoy to a Red Carpet event bedazzled with Hollywood celebrities. (Think a young Mizrahi with more to prove. Could be amazing, I know.)
But considering YouTube’s not quite sure how to make money off this web video thing, opening up the opportunity to the masses makes for great publicity and a branded entertainment stunt that’s surely worth a fat payday.
So, People.com and the video-sharing site yesterday announced a contest presented exclusively by Revlon “for an aspiring Red Carpet Reporter who could win the opportunity to interview celebrities on the Red Carpet in Hollywood this September.” Here’s Michelle Beadle – People.com’s intrepid Red Carpet reporter with humble beginnings – breaking it down:
Submit a two to four-minute video of your best Joan or Melissa (from back when they were allowed to talk to celebrities), interviewing your friends and family like they were hot Hollywood tickets and submit the clip to YouTube by July 21.
A team of People editors will select the 10 finalists, who will have to produce a second clip. Then the YouTube masses will choose the winner, who’ll be flown out to LA, given his/her own VIP treatment, and stand alongside Beadle at some chic Red Carpet event that takes place in September.
No word on what said event is. Emmy’s maybe? But that’s so bigtime, why wouldn’t they advertise it? Anyway, doesn’t matter. Don’t waste your time worrying about the grand prize or even entering. I got this one on lockdown. My eco-politically charged questions and Red Carpet skills make this contest as good as over.
