Whenever someone asks me, “What are your favorite web shows?” I first think of We Need Girlfriends (Tilzy.TV page), then I think of everything else.
Created by the trio of Hofstra University film grads behind Rag Tag Productions, the series follows a trio of recent college grads transplanted to New York City that have each just been dumped by their long-term girlfriends. It’s an anti-Entourage story of forsaken friends that attempt to find some solace and some females in cyberspace and in Queens. And it’s good. Really good.
After creator Steven Tsapelas hinted at a television deal through an e-mail exchange we had last month, it comes as no surprise that the series has been handed a development deal by CBS. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that ‘Sex and the City’ creator Darren Star has been plucked for the project and will work with Rag Tag on creating a TV show based on the original show.
On paper the combination looks sweet, and I’m hoping it will stay that way in practice and in broadcast. But when networks are involved, you never can tell. We’re still waiting to see what God Inc.’s (Tilzy.TV page) Francis Stokes develops with the Sci-Fi Channel, though we all know what happened to the internet’s once beloved Amanda Congdon when she moved to ABC (Tilzy.TV page).
Congrats to Steven, Brian, and Angel. I’m looking forward to seeing Teams Tom, Henry, and Rob on the bigger small screen.
