The excitement doesn’t stop. Last week VH1.com offered high-quality live and on-demand coverage of Concert for Diana. This week, Live Earth, the concert organized by former Vice President Al Gore to bring awareness to climate change, will offer 9 live feeds from the concert, backstage footage, interviews, social-networking functions, and searchable on-demand content after the event is over.
“We expect it to be the most highly watched entertainment event online,” MSN senior director Lisa Gurry said. (via Hollywood Reporter article)
This news comes as Microsoft unveils LiveStation, a peer-to-peer television broadcasting application that–unlike similar services like Joost –will offer live video. According to Don Dodge, who works for Microsoft, “the video is like watching a DVD on your PC…no jerky motion, no buffering…it is just like watching live TV.” Lets hope its not also a walled-garden application like Joost.
So, will you watch the concert on old TV or on the Internet? NBC is spreading its television coverage of the event across its many channels, while on MSN’s Live Earth site where “you can actually watch every single show from beginning to end, up to eight shows broadcast simultaneously, and you can pick what’s happening live,” according to Nina Guralnick, GM for Control Room, the digital entertainment distributor that also orchestrated Live 8. “It’s more like being at the concert — or all eight at the same time — but from the comfort of your own home.”
I think the choice is clear.
