Concert For Diana Streamed Live on VH1.com

It is an awesome illustration of how far Internet-TV has come in the past year. For those of us lucky enough to catch it, Concert for Diana streamed live from VH1.com yesterday and, for the rest still craving these high-energy performances, it is still available on-demand.

Marking the 10th anniversary of their mother’s death, the concert was organized in part by Princess Diana’s two sons, William and Harry. “Though we both (Harry and I) wanted to put our stamp on this concert, we also wanted it to represent exactly what our mother would have wanted,” said Prince William. “We want to have a big concert full of energy, full of the sort of fun and happiness she enjoyed.” Proceeds from the event will go to charities Princess Di supported and to which the Princes currently contribute.

The concert took place at North West London’s new Wembley Staidum, and performers included Elton John, Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry, Lily Allen, Kanye West, Rod Stewart, Natasha Bedingfield, The Feeling, James Morrison, Orson and Status Quo, The English National Ballet, Joss Stone, Andrew Lloyd Webber,

Nelly Furtado, P. Diddy, Tom Jones, Take That, Will Young and more.

VH1 gets a thumbs up for offering impressive streaming quality, both for the live performance and for the on-demand videos. Ironically, however, though they worked with DoubleClick (and presumably payed them a significant sum) to deliver live streaming clips through ad banners appearing on various websites during the concert, the on-demand clips can’t be embedded into other sites. Don’t you see VH1? Fans will drive traffic to your site, too! Let them embed your videos.

Interestingly enough, I found this embeddable clip on YouTube. Of course, I’d prefer to grab the higher-quality video directly from the source, but they won’t let me.

(I wonder how long this video will stay on YouTube)
