Spatulatta Takes a Thai Vacation

For this special episode of kid cooking show Spatulatta, the girls were invited to a Thai buffet by Purple Asparagus, a Chicago organization that tries to bridge generational and cultural gaps by bringing families together at the dinner table. To promote their cause, they hired some traditional Thai dancers and musicians to entertain Belle and Olivia, adding more to the experience of a self-serve buffet than the usual overstuffed plate and feeling of American excess.

After talking to the chefs, they took home their favorite recipes and made some traditional and relatively kid-friendly Thai dishes: chicken satay

, mango smoothie, cucumber salad, and even pad thai.

With most cooking shows that have a hook, there’s only so much you can do before your show gets tired and desperate for a new direction. But Spatulatta only seems to get better and more sophisticated in their ability to make more innovative dishes with recipes that are surprisingly manageable for kids, like this round of American staple Thai cuisine.
