YouTube Leaves the Internet

Within the next two weeks or so, YouTube will begin appearing as a feature on Apple TV. Thousands of videos will be uploaded each week until the entire video catalog is available in September.

“YouTube is a worldwide sensation, and Apple TV is bringing it directly from the Internet onto the widescreen TV in your living room,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs said at the All Things Digital Conference in Carlsbad, California, reports Back Stage.

Apple TV is a next generation mix of internet and television, allowing users to watch TV from their computers or the internet from their TV, depending on your preference. The most attractive feature on Apple TV until this point had been compatibility with iTunes, allowing users to stream their music, video, podcast, and pictures onto their television screens–which is a function not really worth the cost of an iPod

to most consumers. But this is a pretty awesome leap for YouTube.

The gradual released slated to begin in mid-June will begin with uploading thousands of the most popular YouTube videos on a weekly basis. By September, viewers will able to log onto their YouTube accounts through their television screens and search through the entire site catalog, clobbering the barrier between televisions and desktop monitors with a wrecking ball.
