TCM Launches New Media Player

On Tuesday, Turner Classic Movies launched a player that allows viewers to watch classic cinema, free and in full.

TCM’s Media Room is designed to look like a theater screen, capable of expanding into a widescreen format without letterboxing. And while that’s great and everything, it’s something that many players already do. This release is really all about the movies.

Although there’s already a multitude of video content on the TCM site, Media Room launched with over 3,000 new videos, largely shorts and clips. The biggest release of the bunch was the full-length romantic comedy “Living on Love” (1937), the first of many new additions that will get dusted off after sitting on the shelves of Turner Broadcasting’s extensive film library.

Future releases, both daily and monthly, are reported to include “Rafter Romance” (1933), “Double Harness” (1933), and “A Man to Remember” (1938), three films appearing as part of TCM’s “Lost and Found” series where films previously thought to have their original reels irretrievably missing or destroyed are refurbished and aired for the first time in decades.
