Indian family channels have been dominating our Global Top 50 chart in recent months, but they took a break from the #1 spot at the start of May. Instead, a familiar couple danced its way into the top spot.

Jasmin and James got the most YouTube views of any channel during the week that ended on May 3. The Germany-based hub got 1.12 billion weekly views, making it one of two members of the ten-digit views club during our most recent measurement period. The other member of that club is Jasmin and James’ longtime collaborator: Cadel and Mia. Now that’s what I call a Double Date.
The himbos are rising up on YouTube Shorts
These days, it seems as if good-looking guys have all the luck. The “himbo” has become such a big archetype that even the New York Times is devoting ink to Twitch-streaming beefcakes like Hasan Piker.
The appeal of the dapper gentleman, however, isn’t limited to a single platform. In this week’s Global Top 50, we noticed the presence of a few channels that are turning good looks into millions of YouTube Shorts views.
The textbook example of the YouTube Shorts heartthrob comes from a country that is known for producing beautiful people. Arthur Lima rose to fame by performing dances on TikTok, and that activity helped him become a mainstream figure and a regular sight in the Brazilian fashion scene.
After landing just outside the Global Top 50 last week, Lima has now made his first appearance in our viewership chart. As the calendar turned over from April to May, Lima picked up 385.3 million weekly views, which brought his lifetime YouTube tally above one billion. His views increased by 24% week-over-week, pushing him up to 44th place in the Global Top 50.
The recently relaunched Rio Fashion Week, which hit the beachside Brazilian metropolis in April, was a major driver of Lima’s channel growth. He walked on the runway at the event and even performed one of his TikTok dances there. After completing his catwalk, Lima cut multiple million-view clips for his channel.
Congrats to Lima for being able to strut his stuff so well, but you don’t have to be a literal runway model to turn good looks into YouTube views. Even creators who draft off of popular short-form memes can get an extra boost from a bit of coiffure or sartorial style.
Loveneet Valecha falls into that bucket. We’ve discussed the Indian creator before, because he brings universal themes into simple cooking videos, reaching millions of viewers in the process. Valecha is a familiar sight in our Top 50 charts and is one of the biggest creators in India.
He’s also a handsome gentleman with a big ‘do and a penchant for flashy dress. I don’t think he’ll be showing up at any fashion shows in the near future, but his dashing looks and charming personality make for a potent combination. Maybe that’s why he just had one of his biggest weeks ever on YouTube. He reached 23rd place in the Global Top 50 after getting 464.1 million weekly views.
The idea of handsome male creators using their looks to increase their viewership is as old as YouTube itself. PewDiePie’s good looks, for example, helped him widen his appeal and become the YouTube’s biggest creator during its first decade.
As more creators go the Arthur Lima route, there will be more opportunities to bring the “himbo” look further into the mainstream. YouTube has talked for years about boosting fashion content. If it does, lookers like Lima will be first in line to benefit.
