RackaRacka‘s debut feature film is now the No. 1 top-rated horror movie of 2023 on Rotten Tomatoes.
For OG YouTube viewers, “RackaRacka” should ring a bell, but for those who aren’t familiar, it’s a longtime prank channel run by Australian twins Danny and Michael Philippou. Their boisterous, high-production, VFX-filled, and sometimes YouTube TOS-violating (and/or lawbreaking) videos have brought the brothers nearly 7 million subscribers.
Earlier this year, the Philippous announced they’d signed a distribution deal with A24 for their first feature-length film, Talk to Me. The movie follows a group of young friends lured in by something they saw on social media: a ritual to summon spirits. Of course no one takes it too seriously–but then the good ol’ horror movie twist comes in when main character Mia (Sophie Wilde) begins hearing from her dead mother.

Danny co-wrote the script with Bill Hinzman based on a concept from Daley Pearson. The Philippous co-directed.
Discussing Film was the first to notice Talk to Me‘s impressive Rotten Tomatoes ranking. It currently has a 97% from critics, and the critics’ consensus is, “With a gripping story and impressive practical effects, Talk to Me spins a terrifically creepy 21st-century horror yarn built on classic foundations.”
Talk to Me had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in January, and is due to release in theaters July 28. You can watch the trailer (if you dare) below:
