It’s been a remarkable year in our Tubefilter charts, and will three-quarters of 2024 in the books, we have an opportunity to reflect on some of the biggest hitmakers of the past nine months. Turns out that the leader of the pack has been driving YouTube trends longer than some of its contemporaries have been active.

Let’s salute the channels that have come out of nowhere in 2024
Anaya Kandhal is in third place in this month’s Global Top 100 after dominating the chart over the previous four months. Young Anaya and her family rank among the biggest breakout creators of 2024, but I would argue that the rise of J House jr. has been even more remarkable. In January, the kid-friendly Shorts hub was a non-factor in our Global Top 100. In September, it collected 2.6 billion monthly views to rank fifth in the world.
As inspiring as those rags-to-riches stories may be, the channel in the #1 spot is more of a riches-to-more-riches story. T-Series has been a top contender in our Tubefilter charts since we started collecting this data, and it’s still going strong in 2024. During September, the Indian record label counted 3.26 billion monthly views, which was just enough to edge out South Korea’s KIMPRO and take the #1 spot.
Food content is getting more tingly
We previously noted that food creators typically rank among the most-watched YouTube channels month after month. In September 2024, there are still a lot of culinary tastemakers in the ranking, but those channels are doing things a little bit differently from the standard foodie fare.
A perfect, self-explanatory example is ASMR Food. As its name suggests, this Japanese channel combines two of YouTube’s favorite communities in a single location. It turns out that the tapping, scraping, and clattering noises that are familiar to home cooks are also convenient ways to attract ASMR aficionados to what would otherwise be basic recipe videos. ASMR Food provides that experience, and the views are flying in.
There are still some non-ASMR food creators in the Global Top 100. Chief among them is chefkoudy, the Czech creator who continued to fly high by ranking 32nd in September’s worldwide ranking.
The “sigma personality” trend is still going strong
Way back in April 2023, we chronicled the rise of Korean channels like CuRe and CRAZY GREAPA, which scored millions of views by depicting so-called sigma girls: Women who are not alphas but are still brimming with attitude and cool. Neither of those channels are in September 2024’s Global Top 100, but Australian creator Adhemz is, and he knows a thing or two about sigmas.
Adhemz added 736.8 million monthly views to reach 85th place in our most recent Global Top 100. His sigma videos are key to his growth, but they are a bit different from the ones posted by CuRe. His take on the sigma is less disaffected and more beset with shortcomings alphas rarely possess.
In some ways, it seems like sigma can mean almost anything, and the mere deployment of the word is enough to rake in millions of views. Perhaps there’s something about Generation Alpha that aligns with that personality type. The youngest cohort contains the little siblings of the YouTube audience, and creators like Adhemz help them step out of their shadows.
