An Indian family channel concluded its multi-month run at the top of the charts, but it could return to that stature in the coming weeks. In the meantime, its compatriot is taking a turn in the driver’s seat.
The Top 5
🥇T-Series has eclipsed last week’s leader to claim pole position in the Global Top 50. The #1 spot is familiar territory for India’s largest record label, which has found itself in that spot more often than any of its competitors. In 2024, however, that placement has been less common, with T-Series spending more time in second or even (gasp!) third place. The label returned to its rightful by improving its traffic by 16% week-over-week, claiming a total of 762.5 million weekly views. T-Series lifetime viewership total now sits above 262 billion.
🥈Anaya Kandhal only just missed out on (yet another) turn in the top spot. The Indian family hub, which was YouTube’s most watched channel in both May and June, fell just short of its usual territory as the calendar turned over to August. Anaya and her family got 757.2 million weekly views, most of which came on YouTube Shorts, but that total actually represented a week-over-week downturn of 21%. Even with that dip, the Kandhals should hit some big milestones in August by reaching 40 million subscribers and 35 million lifetime Youtube views.
🥉If KIMPRO had sustained its traffic from the previous week, it would have been close to the #1 spot in the Global Top 50. Instead, the Korean Shorts channel lost 18% of its traffic week-over-week and fell from second place in the ranking down to third. In total, it collected 585.3 million weekly views during the “wraparound” week between July and August.
🌟Jason Derulo hit a high note to make his way back into the uppermost echelon of our Global Top 50 chart. The American singer-songwriter is continuing to operate as a glorified meme account on YouTube Shorts, where he combines his own music with preexisting viral videos, resulting in remixed creations that pull in millions of views apiece. Derulo’s deep library delivered 562.5 million weekly views during our most recent seven-day measurement period. That was nearly double as much traffic as the amount he pulled in during the previous week.
✨Zack D. Films rounds out this week’s global top five. The short-form commentary creator made movie magic over the past seven days, hauling in 496.2 million weekly views. It’s the second straight week Zack D. has ranked #5 in our worldwide chart.
Top Gainers
Channels like Marusya Outdoors have taken the “survival girl” trend to the mainstream. Over the past few months, Shorts viewers have been obsesssed with wilderness-set videos in which tough individuals (usually women) share useful tips for life in the outdoors.
The latest survival girl making a splash in the Global Top 50 does things a bit different from some of her contemporaries. Sok Kimleng‘s trips to the forest are not so peaceful, because she is constantly accompanied by her needy son. Whether he’s falling from great heights or grabbing something he shouldn’t, Kimleng’s kid always seems to be getting himself in some kind of dangerous situation.
Luckily for him, his mother is well trained when it comes to wilderness survival strategies. With great care and amusing resourcefulness, she turns the forest into a full-service triage unit. She knows how to use sticks to set a broken arm and can turn a coconut into an intravenous drip, which is good news for her accident-prone offspring.
Sok Kimleng’s videos may lack the soothing simplicity of a typical Marusya Outdoors clip, but they attract a wide audience by appealing to viewers across multiple Shorts communities. Even those who prefer the indoors can appreciate the family-oriented nature of Kimleng’s content and the ways it ties into well-trafficked categories like food and lifehacks.
The evidence of Kimleng’s widespread popularity can be found by scanning her weekly viewership. She hit 48th place in the Global Top 50 after increasing her YouTube traffic by 41% week-over-week. By getting 220.5 million weekly views, she accrued about 20% of her lifetime YouTube viewership over a single seven-day span. She was also Singapore’s only representative in the Global Top 50.
Funnily enough, Kimleng does such a good job of genre-hopping that she begins to obscure the survival-themed milieu of her videos. I mean, how wilderness-oriented can one be while crunching snacks and making lots of noise in the middle of the woods. That kind of hubbub is bound to attract some local wildlife (and I’m not talking about the already-butchered chickens Kimleng’s son magically stumbles upon in the forest). Hopefully, if any predators show up, Kimleng’s unusual set of skills will suffice.
