Cody Ko and Questlove join VidCon’s Industry track as part of a push for more creator perspective

VidCon 2024 is less than a month away, and in the leadup to this year’s shindig, the con is announcing some of the final additions to its Industry track, which’ll feature more than 150 speakers on the theme “The Creator Economy Comes of Age.”

Cody Ko (who’s got 6.2 million subscribers on YouTube and is one half of Tiny Meat Gang) has confirmed he’ll join Jubilee CEO Jason Y. Lee for a chat about the studio’s YouTube series, which include Middle Ground, Odd One Out, and Versus 1. Jubilee’s channel has nearly 9 million subscribers, and it plans to reveal a collab with Ko during their panel.

“I’m really looking forward to chatting about Jubilee and I’s new announcement, and also another venture that I think will be relevant to those in the creator sphere,” Ko tells Tubefilter.

Two more additions to the Industry track: Unilever Chief Brand Communications Officer Casey DePalma and Paramount Advertising COO Steve Ellis. They’ll talk about “the Future of Influence”–aka where they see the creator economy and influencer marketing going over the next few years.

And last but not least, Questlove, co-founder and frontman/drummer of The Roots (you’ll know them if you’ve ever watched an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon), joins SoundExchange President/CEO Michael Huppe for a convo moderated by Flighthouse CEO Ash Stahl.

Questlove–who hosts his own podcast, Questlove Supreme, on the band’s YouTube channel (530,000 subscribers)–will talk with Huppe about “the business of creating quality content and maintaining integrity while exploiting the revenue opportunities of new and evolving platforms,” VidCon says.

Ko and Questlove’s panels are part of VidCon’s push to involve more creators in the Industry track this year.

“In a notable shift and sign of the times, the 2024 Industry Track will incorporate more creators and creator perspectives into the overall programming, taking the stage to share insights about their companies, business practices and more, highlighting how they think about building brands and how they approach traditional media, marketing, retail, operations and more,” it says.

As we mentioned, the theme of this year’s Industry track (for which tickets are $999) is “The Creator Economy Comes of Age,” but the track also has a few subthemes, including “the ‘adulting’ of the creator economy,” how artificial intelligence is intersecting with our space (and the problems it may cause), creator-led ecommerce and retail, and emerging forms of monetization.

Other confirmed speakers for the track include MatPat and Stephanie Patrick, Colin & Samir, MrBeast President (and Tubefilter co-founder) Marc Hustvedt, Smosh CEO Alessandra Catanese, Mythical Entertainment President Brian Flanagan, YouTube VP of Product Management Amjad Hanif and YouTube Global Director of Culture & Trends Kevin Allocca, and Christian Tom, Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Digital Strategy.

VidCon’s main event runs June 26-29 at its longtime home, the Anaheim Convention Center.
