Instagram Head Adam Mosseri offers a “Creator POV”

Adam Mosseri is getting some face time with creators. The Instagram Head sits down with some of his platform’s most popular community members in Creator POV, an interview series that kicked off on May 14.

In each episode of Creator POV, Mosseri and a guest discuss pertinent issues that affect Instagram users. The first creator to find herself in Mosseri’s spotlight is comedian Ezee, who reaches more than two million followers on her personal Insta page. Her wide-ranging conversation with Mosseri is available across ten segments on the @creators hub, which functions as “a creator’s guide to Instagram…by Instagram.”

Subjects covered by Ezee and Mosseri include the comedian’s unusually positive comment section, her love for Kai Cenat, and the different formats available to Instagram creators (such as photos, videos, live broadcasts, and, tangentially, podcasts). As Mosseri and Ezee weighed the relative value of photos and videos, Mosseri took a moment to remind viewers why they’re seeing more videos in their Insta feeds. “Videos are just more engaging because they’re moving and fun and there’s sound,” Mosseri said, “and so there’s more demand for video than there is video to share.”

Creator POV resembles other programs launched by some of Instagram’s competitors. YouTube’s Release Notes series gives its leadership team a chance to answer creators’ most burning questions, while Twitch updates its community through its internal video podcast Patch Notes.

Like those shows, Creator POV is a chance for an exec to show transparency toward his platform’s user base. “Our hope is that we adapt,” Mosseri said, “but that we can bring people along by explaining what we’re doing and why.”

On a more personal note, Creator POV allows Mosseri to show a more relaxed side of himself. Sitting opposite a comedian, the Instagram Head appears more down-to-earth and less stiff than he seemed in previous meme-able public statements. Ezee seemed to enjoy her chat with Mosseri, even if he couldn’t meet her request to become Instagram’s second-most followed personality.
