William Osman’s STEM convention Open Sauce returns for second year, will feature 150 content creators

Open Sauce, William Osman‘s STEM-palooza exhibition for content creators, engineers, and fans of all things science, is returning for its second year–and more than doubling in size.

After debuting in 2023 with an attendance of over 10,000 people, Open Sauce is shifting locations this year to Daly City‘s Cow Palace, and is expecting more than 20,000 attendees.

It’s also expecting 150 creators and 500 exhibitors, up from 75 creators and 150 exhibitors last year. Featured creators include Osman himself, MythbustersAdam Savage, Mark Rober, TheOdd1sOut, Emily The Engineer, NileRed, Allen Pan, Evan and Katelyn, Michael Reeves, TheBackyardScientist, ElectroBOOM, DougDoug, Code Bullet, Wren, The Hacksmith, Unnecessary Inventions, Jake Laser, Estefannie, Peter Sripol, Pirate Software, Colin Furze, Nerdforge, and more.

Creators will host a constant rotation of panels and workshops for their attending fans and fellow STEM enthusiasts, and will also do group meet-and-greets. And, for the first time, Open Sauce is also offering an industry track that’ll feature panels, workshops, and discussions with professionals from companies including YouTube, Kajabi, and Symbolica.

“Open Sauce was created by me because I felt there was not a place in the world for science and engineering fanatics to get together and share what they’re passionate about, and celebrate the people who are the most exciting in that space,” Osman, an engineer and content creator who has 3 million subscribers on YouTube

, tells Tubefilter. “So I looked at what I would’ve loved when I was a 15-year-old kid and where I would’ve wanted to beg my parents to go every summer, and built the event around that.”

“I reached out to my cohort on YouTube, all the science and engineering creators, and everybody wanted the same thing,” he adds. “We were able to put together this event that brings together a bunch of the largest makers on the internet and hundreds of exhibitors that have engineering jobs or are aspiring engineers. It’s two days of mayhem.”

Open Sauce’s confirmed exhibitors–who will have interactive exhibits set up in the Cow Palace’s massive central space–include Exosapien Technologies, Arc Attack, and Battlebots.

Osman says he can’t give too many spoilers, but he’s excited for exhibits like a U-Haul truck turned into a giant camera, a chicken-frying robot, musical Tesla coils, and a drivable bunk bed.

“It’s the wildest collection of things that maybe shouldn’t have been built,” he jokes. “But that’s the spirit of the event. An engineer, a builder, a maker came up with an idea, and they pursued it. And I really love that stuff.”

Open Sauce runs June 14-16, 2024. You can see ticket info here.
