Danny Duncan is putting his new energy drink brand in 10,000 stores this year

YouTube stuntman, ice cream seller, and purveyor of Virginity Rocks T-shirts Danny Duncan is getting into the energy business.

For three years, Duncan has been working with Night (the Austin-based company that manages MrBeast and is behind brands like Feastables) to create Matador, which bills itself as a “cleaner” alternative to established energy drink brands.

Now, he’s launching the brand’s flagship energy shot, Matador Energy, into 620 Spencer’s stores across the U.S.

“We initially struggled to find a convenience store that believed in me, so while it may not be the typical place to launch an energy shot, Spencer’s has been an incredible partner showing huge success with my apparel line, one of the top selling brands in their stores,” Duncan said in a statement. “I know the same thing will happen with MATADOR.”

Duncan has said he’s sold over $150 million of apparel in retail stores like Spencer’s, much of it bearing risqué slogans like “This couch pulls out but I don’t” and “Future MILF.”

The Matador Energy shot joining his product lineup is made with 185 mg of caffeine derived from coffee bean extract, plus “100% of your daily value of Vitamin B3, B6, B9, B12, and a Nootropic mix that includes 200 mg Alpha GPC,” the brand says. It comes in two flavors: Strawberry Acai and Blue Raspberry.

Matador is co-founded and CEO’d by former Vitaminwater/Smartwater Director of Marketing Chris Pruneda, who says Duncan and Night approached him to help run the brand.

“I knew MATADOR’s explosive marketing potential needed to be coupled with a category innovating formula,” Pruneda says. “In addition to better ingredients that give you energy and keep you sharp, we choose High Pressure Processing for MATADOR, ensuring fewer preservatives without compromising on freshness or taste.”

He adds that after the pre-launch at Spencer’s (which happened this past weekend), Matador will roll out into 6,000 convenience stores this May, and will be in 10,000 convenience stores by the end of 2024.

In an Instagram post about Matador’s launch, Duncan said he plans to do a tour for the brand in June, and that fans can “comment which cities we should hit.”
