MrBeast’s Feastables brand may need to rename Deez Nutz due to legal dispute

A recent legal decision could result in a name change for Deez Nutz. The peanut butter bar, which is sold by MrBeast‘s Feastables brand, is facing a permanent injunction thanks to a legal challenge from a company called Dee’s Nuts.

Jacksonville-based Dee’s Nuts filed a lawsuit against Feastables earlier this year, months after MrBeast’s snack brand unveiled its Deez Nutz bar. Dee’s Nuts had previously hit Feastables with a cease-and-desist request, the company responded in April and said that it planned to continue using the Deez Nutz branding.

“Plaintiff has consistently used the Dee’s Nuts Mark in commerce for the sale of gourmet flavored peanuts for over a decade,” reads the original complaint filed by trademark holder Brian Ditore. Though the Dee’s Nuts brand was allegedly named after Ditore’s grandmother, who was called “Mrs. Dee,” the peanut purveyor is clearly aware of the double entendre suggested by its name. Why else would one register grabdeesnuts.com as an official URL?

Both Donaldson and Ditore have marketed their soundalike products by appealing to the sophomoric nature of the titular phrase, and those similar strategies seemed to inform the court’s decision. A federal judge approved a permanent injunction that will prevent Feastables from using its “confusingly similar” product name. Dee’s Nuts is also seeking damages based on the sales MrBeast generated through the Deez Nutz moniker.

The blow to the Deez Nutz brand is one of several court battles Donaldson is currently contesting. The most-subscribed individual creator on YouTube is also in the midst of a dispute with Virtual Dining Concepts, the company that partnered with him to launch the MrBeast Burger brand. In that case, Donaldson is the plaintiff. He has argued that Virtual Dining Concepts devalued MrBeast Burger by expanding too rapidly and serving sub-standard products at some locations.

At the time of this post, Deez Nutz bars are still available in their original packaging on the Feastables website. MrBeast’s biggest fans may want to scoop up a 10-pack while they still can; if a Jacksonville peanut empire gets its way, Deez Nutz will become a collector’s item before long.
