VTubers have been getting more and more recognition in creator-focused awards shows–our own Streamy Awards added a VTuber category in 2022, and The Streamer Awards also gives ’em a nod.
But now there’s an entire show dedicated solely to VTubing.
The first VTuber Awards will air Dec. 16, 2023, hosted by VTuber Filian and put on by Mythic Talent, the talent management company co-founded by OTK members Asmongold and TipsOut. It’s produced by WePlay Studios and will be hosted live at the WePlay Esports Arena in Los Angeles.
“We have high expectations for the success of the show, with Filian at the forefront and an award-winning studio such as WePlay bringing Filian’s vision to life,” William Lucas, Mythic Talent’s CEO, said in a statement. “A huge shout-out to all parties involved, including the VTuber Awards sponsors and partners, for making this show possible, and we’ll see you all on December 16th for what we hope will be a monumental milestone in VTuber history!”
“VTubers are amazing! And often not a focus in other award shows,” Filian added. “But this one is for us, for VTubers and VTuber fans alike! I can’t wait to see who wins!”
According to organizers, the overall goal of the show is to celebrate VTuber culture and community, as well as “[spotlight] their triumphs in a friendly atmosphere of collaboration and respect.”
There are no limitations on which VTubers can be nominated and/or who can win an award; organizers say that any VTuber can become a nominee, “regardless of their language of communication, audience size, genre of communication, and gender–the award is open to every creator and provides everyone with equal chances and conditions.”
Nominations for the 2023 VTuber Awards are open now. Nominees will be submitted by the public, and winners will also be decided by the public. Voting runs through Nov. 20.
