After 823 ‘Minecraft’ adventures, Stampy Cat creator ends “fantastic ride” on YouTube

A legendary Minecraft player is bringing his long-running series to an end. Joseph Garrett, the creator of the feline character known as Stampy Cat, has bid farewell to Stampy’s Lovely World after more than 800 episodes.

Stampy Cat has been known by many aliases over the years, including stampylonghead, stampylongnose, and Mr. Stampy Cat. Since creating his Minecraft avatar more than a decade ago, Garrett has brought in more than eight billion YouTube views on his primary channel, which counts 10.8 million subscribers. For Gen Z gamers who grew up watching the first generation of Minecraft stars, Stampy is an iconic figure.

In the mid 2010s, Garrett was able to bring Stampy beyond YouTube. Thanks to his storytelling skills and family-friendly attitude, the British creator landed a book deal and launched an educational series.

But all good things must come to an end, and after 823 trips to Stampy’s Lovely World, Garrett uploaded one final visit to his Minecraft habitat on October 21. He showed off some farewell gifts he received, battled a horde of zombies and skeletons, and wrapped up his stream by thanking his fans for their longtime support. The video has picked up 2.7 million views and earned a spot on YouTube’s trending tab.

“Thank you everyone who’s sent me a lovely message tonight. I have really felt all of the love and good wishes,” Garrett wrote on X. “It was a fantastic ride and I’m glad I got to go out in the way I wanted. Good luck with wherever your life takes you.”

The fans who paid their respects to Stampy Cat honored the character as an example of Gen Z’s growing sense of nostalgia. “I haven’t been watching for a while but you were my childhood mr Stampy cat,” one fan wrote. “Coming back for the last episode made me almost cry. It was lovely.”

The end of Stampy’s Lovely World comes during a period of flux in the digital gaming community. The Dream SMP has ended, legendary creators have begun sunsetting their main channels, and O.G. stars like Dan and Phil have returned to their roots. Garrett was a memorable figure in the Minecraft world, but even without his presence, the blocky game will continue to host a thriving community of YouTubers.
