Comedian Stephen Tries inks representation deal with MonRae Management

MonRae Management‘s latest signing gives it a presence in the world of digital comedy. The two-year-old talent management firm is now representing Stephen Tries, a funnyman who recently served as one of the commentators for the Sidemen charity soccer match.

Though his real name is Stephen Lawson, Tries adopted his internet handle as a shortened form of the phrase Stephen Tries Less, which is the current name of his second YouTube channel. On his primary YouTube hub, Tries entertains more than 1.5 million subscribers. Across a decade of activity, he’s collected more than 150 million lifetime YouTube views.

Tries also reaches one million followers on TikTok, where he delivers his comedy in small, bite-sized chunks. Those clips often feature his collaborators, who range from mainstream comedians like Jack Whitehall to creator groups like the Sidemen. In September, the U.K.-based septet invited Tries to London Stadium, where his scathing commentary punctuated an entertaining charity event.

Aside from videos, Tries also reaches his fans through formats like podcasting and live events. In 2019, he brought the show This Week on the Internet on the road alongside co-host WillNE. More recently, he starred in an acrobatic Netflix program titled Cunning Stunts.

“We are extremely excited to be working with Stephen,” said MonRae Co-Founder Elspeth Rae in a statement. “MonRae has a proven track record in helping its talent diversify and we see some amazing opportunities across scripted and unscripted projects on both digital and traditional platforms for someone of Stephen’s calibre. We can’t wait to embark on this journey with him.”

Tries joins a MonRae roster that also includes popular Minecraft stars like DanTDM and TommyInnit. The management firm has added to its talent pool in 2023 through multiple signees, including gamer Bekyamon.
