TikTok celebrates Latin Heritage Month by shouting out a fresh batch of Visionary Voices

For the second September in a row, TikTok is pulling out all the stops to celebrate Latin Heritage Month. Among other initiatives, the video app has released a new Visionary Voices list that highlights several exemplary Latin creators.

As with previous Visionary Voices lists, TikTok has split its Latin Heritage Month VIPs into several categories. The honor roll includes small businesses like Pinole Blue, top creators like comedian Jesus Nalgas, and “industry disruptors” like Myke Towers. Though he’s best known for his music, Towers has emerged as a short-form innovator by uploading viral clips set to his songs.

The Visionary Voices initiative grew out of a dinner series launched by TikTok. One of those dinners brought Latin creators together during last year’s Heritage Month. Other Visionary Voices lists have tied into other month-long cultural happenings, such as Black History Month and AAPI Heritage Month.

The platform’s Latin Heritage Month celebrations will go far beyond a single list. TikTok is highlighting its partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation

after contributing $1 million to the organization’s work in Latin communities. The app will continue to offer support to those communities through a small business initiative called Creciendo Con TikTok and a computer science program dubbed Code as a Second Language.

“TikTok creates a space for Latino business owners and creators to thrive and have a positive impact on their communities,” said Hispanic Heritage Foundation President and CEO Antonio Tijerino in a statement. “HHF and TikTok share a joint mission to promote cultural pride and economic opportunities for Latino entrepreneurs and leaders.”

The Latin Heritage Month calendar will also extend to the world of music. A Spanish Sounds Page will give Spanish speakers in the U.S. a resource filled with hit songs and genre-specific playlists.
