For the second straight week, there was a flurry of changes near the front of our Global Top 50.

For the first time, a channel from Brazil received the most YouTube views during one of our week-long measurement periods. It was one of four channels in the top five that increased its viewership by a double-digit percentage week-over-week.
Chart Toppers
Last week, we discussed the rapid rise of Mayca Delduque on YouTube Shorts. Delduque, who was already one of Brazil’s brightest TikTok stars, rocketed into the Global Top 50 after recording a Portuguese-language cover of the suddenly viral song “Barbie Girl”. That surge has now carried Delduque’s Mayca Brasil channel to the top of our worldwide ranking. During the first week of August, Mayca Brasil collected 730.5 million weekly views, which was good for a 64% week-over-week increase. With numbers like those, Brazil’s pink-haired sensation is going global.
KL BRO Biju Rithvik, which led the Global Top 50 last week, dropped down to second place after our latest chart update. The Indian YouTube Shorts channel is nearing 20 billion lifetime views after providing its 25.6 million subscribers with family-oriented sketches that feature the regional language known as Malayalam. That audience delivered 565.3 million views to KL BRO Biju Rithvik during the week that was. The Shorts hub just celebrated its third birthday in July.
StarPlus moved up 13 spots to reach #3 in the Global Top 50. The provider of Indian TV content has long been a factor in our rankings, but it just had one of its best weeks of all time. Over seven day, it picked up 550.3 million weekly views, which put its lifetime YouTube total above 28 billion. Among the channels in this week’s top ten, StarPlus ranks second in terms of subscribers, with more than 33 million of them.
The next channel up in the Global Top 50 is another YouTube Shorts all-star. PANDA BOI has reached fourth place in the worldwide ranking thanks to videos in which he makes people choose between two similar options. That simple setup has proven wildly popular, and PANDA BOI brought it 491.5 million weekly views during the first week of August. No other Italian channels even cracked the Global Top 50.
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes, which led the Global Top 50 for a big chunk of 2023, finished fifth in this week’s ranking. The U.S.-based producer of kid-friendly animations added 478.2 million weekly views to its impressive lifetime total of more than 165 billion views.
Top Gainers
YouTube Shorts has turned pop stars into serial reposters, and that transformation is also working in reverse. By striking it big with silly videos on Shorts, creators like Tarik Alhalapi are embarking on multi-platform careers.
Alhalapi has become a familiar face in our Top 50 charts. Earlier this year, he broke into the global top five for the first time, and he’s been hovering near the top of the ranking ever since. During the first week of August, the Turkish creator delivered another strong performance. One week after placing 25th, he surged up to 10th by pulling in 444.9 million weekly views. Thanks to that total — which was 37% more views than the sum Alhalapi recorded seven days prior — he brought his lifetime YouTube viewership above nine billion.
Like many of the individual creators who become regulars in our Global Top 50, Alhalapi focuses on family content. His daughter is one of his frequent co-stars, and they often team up together for videos that feature slapstick moments and silly twist endings. Six of those clips have gained at least 200 million views on YouTube Shorts.

But about a month ago, Alhalapi tried something different: He uploaded a music video for a song called “Btzkarek”. Contrary to Alhalapi’s family-friendly image, “Btzkarek” gives him a chance to play the crooner and woo his romantic interest. It feels like an attempt to spin a pop career off a series of minute-long Shorts clips.
With short-form video capturing the attention of audiences around the world, these stories will only become more common going forward. As a family man, Alhalapi is undoubtedly a star. We’ll see if his musical aspirations take off in the same way.
