‘This is Mark Rober’ introduces TV viewers to YouTube’s favorite engineer

Porch pirates, beware: Mark Rober‘s TV career is officially off and running. The engineer, who entertains 23.7 million subscribers on his namesake YouTube channel, has premiered a show on Discovery called This Is Mark Rober. A second Rober-led program, Revengineers, is set for an April 20 arrival on Discovery.

Rober is known for applying his STEM knowledge in order to concoct epic pranks and large-scale experiments. In his eponymous Discovery show, he goes behind the scenes to teach viewers about the scientific concepts that make his videos possible. The first episode of This Is Mark Rober centers around “elephant toothpaste,” a reactive substance that Rober set off in Jimmy Kimmel‘s office last year.

The partnership between Rober and Kimmel extends beyond a single prank. In 2019, the late-night host teamed up with the YouTube star to create a series that was then known as Revenge of the Nerd. It’s taken more than three years to get that show to the airwaves, but the series now known as Revengineers is finally on its way.

The prank program will land squarely in Rober’s wheelhouse by combining mischief with morality. In his most-watched videos, he creates booby-trapped packages in order to punish porch piratesRevengineers will search for more bad actors, who will receive karmic justice in the form of a Rober-designed practical joke. The program’s premiere episode will take aim at foodies who hoard free samples at the farmer’s market and shoppers who fail to return their carts after checking out.

To get some promotion for his shows ahead of their respective premieres, Rober returned to the late-night program where he once filled in as a guest host. In his latest Jimmy Kimmel Live bit, the 43-year-old Los Angeles native biked across his hometown to prank pedestrians who look at their phones in the middle of intersections.

Revengineers‘ premiere will occur at 11 PM ET on April 20. According to a press release from Discovery, both of Rober’s new TV shows are produced by Kimmelot and ITV America.
