Longtime MrBeast collaborator Chris Tyson has come out as gender nonconforming.
Tyson took to Twitter after responses to the newest Beast Reacts video focused largely on their (Tyson uses any pronouns, so for consistency we’re using they/them) changed appearance. They quote-retweeted a Twitter user questioning the difference between their old look and their new one and said they’ve been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the past two months:
They went on to say that going on HRT “saved my and many others’ lives,” and that “[t]he hurdles [gender nonconforming people] have to jump through to get life-saving gender-affirming healthcare in a 1st world country is wild to me. Just let people make informed decisions about their own bodies.”
Tyson also confirmed that they and their wife Katie have been separated for a year and are working on finalizing a divorce. The couple has one son, Tucker.
Because we’re currently dealing with peak anti-trans climate, reactions to Tyson’s coming out have been peppered with cruel and negative comments. But, much more importantly, the MrBeast crew and other fellow content creators are out in full supportive force:
Tyson posted a followup to their coming-out tweets April 7, saying, “It’s never too late, to start being yourself.”
