NBA stars have big style. A new web series challenges them to keep their outfits under $300.

NBA stars like Russell Westbrook and James Harden have become famous for wearing over-the-top outfits as they walk from the locker room to the court. When you make millions each year, it’s easy to dress to the nines, but is it possible to style yourself like an NBA star without signing a professional sports contract?

Chime says yes. The fintech company is behind Ball on a Budget, a YouTube series that challenges basketball players to recreate their signature looks without breaking the bank. The show’s guests join stylist Courtney Mays to embark on sartorial adventures that bring NBA fashion to the masses.

The first athlete to show up on Ball on a Budget is Tim Hardaway, Jr. of the Dallas Mavericks. With $300 in his pocket, Hardaway, Jr. heads to a local thrift shop, where he and Mays assemble an outfit that is trendy but not spendy. The clip can be found on Chime’s official YouTube channel.

“Especially the younger consumer, I think we’re constantly bombarded with these ideas of spending to look good,” Mays said in a statement. “I thought this series was so important because it was really teaching people to be smart with their money, but still be interested in feeling good and looking good. It was important to have conversations around money when it comes to fashion because so often we’re told even inadvertently to follow this trend of wearing Louis Vuitton down to your socks, but I think realistically it’s so important to be cost-conscious.”

Future Ball on a Budget shoppers will include Karl Anthony Towns and Jalen Green. As the NBA playoffs roll around in April, some of the league’s trendsetters will have the chance to try on the outfits they picked out through Chime’s web series. If you watch the show, you might find the confidence to assemble one of Hardaway Jr.’s outlandish fits in your own closet.
