Ludwig doubles down with KFC commercial

13 years ago, KFC created a social media sensation when it introduced the Double Down, a sandwich that replaces buns with pieces of fried chicken. After discontinuing the Double Down in 2014, KFC chose to bring it back in 2023.

To build hype for the sandwich’s return, the home of Colonel Sanders turned to Ludwig Ahgren. The streamer known by the mononymous handle Ludwig produced and starred in a KFC commercial featuring the Double Down.

The ad aired for the first time during the 2023 Streamer Awards, which was produced and hosted by Ahgren’s girlfriend QTCinderella. At the start of the 90-second spot, Ahgren finds himself in a hole at the blackjack table. After getting his hands on a KFC sandwich, the YouTube star chooses to “double down,” and his luck quickly changes course. Nathan Stanz, a streamer who teamed up with Ludwig and two others to launch the creative studio Offbrand, also appears in the commercial.

KFC reintroduced the Double Down on March 6, five days before the Streamer Awards. A rep for Ahgren’s Mogul Moves brand told Tubefilter that the fast food chain initiated the partnership and ironed out a separate deal for the Streamer Awards airtime. Mogul Moves, a wide-reaching entity that encompasses many of Ahgren’s creative and entrepreneurial initiatives, wrote and produced the spot.

Post-premiere, the commercial has been refashioned for placements on Instagram and TikTok. It will also run as a mid-roll ad on platforms that support that format.

Ahgren hasn’t announced any further partnerships with KFC, but the two parties have become fast friends. After the Double Down commercial premiered, Ahgren and KFC shared a firm handshake on Twitter — so that’s good news for anyone who would like to see them team up again.
