On International Women’s Day, TikTok celebrates creators who “forge change”

TikTok is celebrating International Women’s Day in style. On March 8, the video app highlighted the spotlights, events, and other initiatives it is running during Women’s History Month.

If you’ve followed TikTok’s previous celebrations of specific cultures and identities, the app’s Women’s History Month programming will look familiar. A central #WomenofTikTok hub will shout-out some of the platform’s biggest stars. Creators who will be featured through that hashtag will include Drew Afualo, Molly Burke, and Dylan Mulvaney.

TikTok is also paying tribute to the female-led small businesses that have harnessed the power of the For You Page. Those companies include California bakery La Cheve and apparel brand TW Travel Wear.

Cultural initiatives on TikTok typically involve live programming, and the app’s Women’s History Month campaign is no different. The official TikTok Live account is ringing in International Women’s Day with a live showcase on March 8. Musicians can also get in on the feminist fun by accessing genre-specific playlists filled with female artists. Those items can be found on TikTok’s Sounds page.

TikTok’s other Women’s History Month plans will leave the screen and stretch into the real world. A series of events called ‘Women Who Will: Brunch/Dinner Series’ will take place across the United States throughout March.

A full rundown of TikTok’s Women’s History Month happenings can be found on the platform’s official blog. “At TikTok, our community is at the heart of everything we do,” reads a post uploaded on March 8. “Join us this International Women’s Day as we celebrate and elevate the stories and voices of the strong, remarkable, and creative #WomenofTikTok.”

TikTok’s respect for female voices will also extend to its own internal affairs. A women-led employee resource group will host company-wide events and programs in order to empower everyone who works for TikTok.
