One week into the new year, we’re starting to learn which channels will dominate our U.S. Top 50 — at least for a few months. Short-form channels are still crushing it, but a few long-form stalwarts are holding on at the top of the chart.

One of those stalwarts is in control of the #1 spot, and it doesn’t seem as if that will change anytime soon.
Chart Toppers
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes ended 2022 as the #1 channel in our U.S. Top 50, and it began 2023 in the exact same place. The California-based producer of animations is a dependable destination for parents of young kids, and it proved that utility during the holiday season. With 582.5 million weekly views, Cocomelon barely missed doubling up every other channel in the U.S. field.
Only two channels managed half of Cocomelon’s viewership. The first of those hubs is our U.S. runner-up, MrBeast. The iconic creator, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is soaring to heights he hasn’t yet reached in our U.S. Top 50. His combination of long-form bonanzas and short-form updates brought 295.3 million weekly views to his primary YouTube home.
LeoNata Family took third place in the U.S. Top 50. The short-form channel has been a regular around these parts for the better part of two years, and like MrBeast, it offers videos of many different lengths — even if its long-form content is mostly just compilations. That formula brought 292.9 million weekly views to the LeoNata channel during the first full week of January.
Another channel that emerged around the same time as LeoNata Family is D Billions. The energetic children’s entertainment destination teaches kids to count in style, and its viewers are still excitedly tuning in. D Billions’ latest seven-day count topped out at 291 million weekly views. If its viewership moved two million in either direction, its chart position would change, so it’s a tight week overall.
Alan Chikin Chow rounds out this week’s U.S. Top 50. The YouTube Shorts creator was one of the only non-Cocomelon holders of the U.S. #1 spot last year, and he’s still doing quite well, with 290.6 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
The #49 spot in this week’s U.S. Top 50 is occupied by Zach Choi ASMR. It’s not the first time the short form creator has made an appearance in our American ranking, but it’s one of his most impressive showings to date. With 113.5 million weekly views, which was a 14% week-over-week increase, Choi was able to move up 15 places. If you ranked the U.S. Top 50 by subscriber count, Choi’s 17.7 million would put him in 15th place.
Choi is doing so well thanks to his cooking content. That on its own is not a surprise, since food is a popular category on YouTube Shorts. What’s interesting is Choi’s specific approach to culinary videos: He combines them with the soothing sounds of ASMR.
As it turns out, there are a lot of nice sonic sensations to be found in the kitchen. With scrapes of his knife and the soft squish of cheesy noodles, Choi entertains both the ears and taste buds of his viewers.
There are plenty of dishes to be found on Choi’s channel (he also makes mukbang content), but if you’ve been on the internet a while, you can probably guess the health content of his most-watched clips. Grease still sells, just like it did during the heyday of Epic Meal Time, and Choi provides all sorts of heavy recipes, including a take on “deep fried bacon-wrapped cheese” that has picked up 137 million total views.
Choi has found a combo that works and is set up for long-term success. Even so, he’ll have to avoid giving his fans heart attacks if he wants them to keep watching.
