VTubers are so hot right now, and Twitch is taking a week to celebrate that ascendant community. Between August 29 and September 2, the streaming platform is hosting a “VTuber takeover,” which will bring together more than 100 virtual creators for workshops, spotlights, and tournaments.
Twitch’s VTuber takeover begins on its homepage. The platform is using a Homepage Carousel to bring attention to some of its most popular virtual streamers, including TiffanyWitcher and OliviaMonroe. Those creators will also be featured as recommended channels throughout the duration of the takeover.
TiffanyWitcher and OliviaMore are also two of the personalities who will teach beginning streamers how to become VTubers themselves. They will join Delphron for a panel that will be part of the Creator Camp Twitch launched in 2018. Among other topics, these motion-capped movers-and-shakers will talk about the process of creating VTuber characters, the technical aspects of their jobs, and the advantages of their approach to streaming.

Those advantages have allowed TiffanyWitcher to build a career that would have otherwise been inaccessible to her. “Being a VTuber saved me as a disabled content creator!” she told Animation World Network. “Being a VTuber now allowed me to speak about how accessible it can be as an accessibility advocate and help others as it did for me. It’s constantly evolving in the community, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s new around the corner and beyond!”
The usefulness of virtual avatars is so apparent that some creators are now looking to replace themselves with VTubers — and other creators are ruing that they didn’t go virtual from the start. “If I was starting social media now, I would actually just go the VTuber route because it’s the most secure,” said Twitch star Amouranth in a recent interview with Business Insider.
Twitch viewers will get to see the progress the VTuber community has made at 2 PM ET on September 2. At that time, 30 VTubers will come together on the in-house Twitch channel to play a joint game of Fall Guys. The battle royale figures to be the culmination of the week-long party.
