Twitch will offer 30% off its subscriptions during SUBtember

Twitch has had to deal with some tough press lately, but it has plans to reward its devoted community members. Starting on September 1, the streaming platform will bring back SUBtember, a month-long promotion that will offer discounted prices on Twitch subscriptions.

SUBtember, which dates back to 2017, has evolved over the years. In 2022, the initiative will include several different types of giveaways and discounts, with most of the perks centered around the platform’s paid subscriptions. One-month subscriptions will be available for 20% off, three-month subs will be 25% off, and the six-month variety will have 30% chopped off the price tag. Perhaps Twitch is promoting its long-term subscriptions so that it can keep customers around even if more streamers jump to YouTube Gaming, but that’s just conjecture.

There is some fine print attached to these deals. Per the Twitch blog post introducing the SUBtember deals: “Discounts apply only to the first term of new, recurring paid subscriptions, Prime or gift subscriptions converted to paid subscriptions, or monthly subscriptions upgraded to multi-month.”

If subscription discounts aren’t for your thing, you can hope for a visit from Twitch’s Fairy Modmother. The “unofficial mascot” of SUBtember was introduced last year and will return in 2022. “I’m ready to fly into some Partner and Affiliate channels to grant wishes,” the Fairy Modmother said before their inaugural appearance. “I’ve got Bits, Gift Subs and lots o’ M A G I C.”

The 2022 edition of SUBtember will be sponsored by Lenovo Legion, the gaming PC division of consumer electronics company Lenovo. In addition to this partnership, Lenovo Legion has also worked alongside individual streamers, such as SypherPK.

“Streamers are the heart of Twitch, and SUBtember is an annual celebration of the work they do to build strong communities across our service,” said Twitch head of global sponsorship sales Lou Garate in a statement. “We’re pleased to welcome Lenovo Legion as this year’s SUBtember presenting sponsor. Sponsoring SUBtember not only helps to support our streamers, but creates an opportunity for Lenovo Legion to authentically engage with our community—showing that they understand our unique community and where to meaningfully add value that delivers benefits for all.”

Twitch is also planning to host a SUBtember celebration on its in-house channel. That stream will go live at 4 PM ET on September 16.
