Marques Brownlee will teach “the fundamentals” of video production in new MasterClass offering

Marques Brownlee has been posting YouTube videos for more than 13 years, and his channel is still going strong. In May alone, he’s attended the Met Gala, earned a new batch of episodes for his YouTube Original series Retro Tech, and maintained a regular upload schedule for his 13 million subscribers.

How has the founder of MKBHD kept himself in the top tier of YouTube tech reviewers for so long? The answer to that question concerns Brownlee’s videomaking habits, and he will examine his creative process in a new MasterClass offering that will go live on June 27.

Brownlee’s guide to content creation is part of the Sessions by MasterClass, which offers 30-day crash courses on a variety of topics. In this case, the 28-year-old YouTube star will cover a lot of ground. He will follow the life cycle of the YouTube video, touching on everything from idea generation to lighting to editing to thumbnail design. I’m particularly curious to hear Brownlee discuss the “ideal eyelines” he achieves with his videos.

Registration for Brownlee’s MasterClass opens on June 6, and interested students can register until June 26. The next day, the 30-day sprint will begin, and at the end of that month, Brownlee’s pupils will level up their own content production skills (in theory).

As Masterclass looks to populate its Sessions format, it has turned to multiple influencers. About two months before Brownlee’s class debuted, Masterclass revealed a partnership with top gamer Ninja, who dispensed advice to up-and-coming streamers over the course of his 30-day Session.

This is not the first time Brownlee has shared his wisdom on an educational platform. Last year, he hosted a Skillshare series about “YouTube Success.”

To get a closer look at Brownlee’s process, you’ll need a MasterClass account. The most basic subscription will run you $15.
