The most-watched U.S.-based YouTube channel of all time nearly made it through the entire month of April without surrendering the #1 spot in our U.S. Top 50. But in the last week of the month, a family vlog based in Florida eclipsed its Californian counterpart.

Kids Diana Show has strung together several strong weeks in a row to rise to the #1 spot in our U.S. Top 50. The colorful kids channel received 586.9 million weekly views during the last full week of April. That was the highest sum among all U.S.-based channels over that period, and as a result, Kids Diana Show is atop our American ranking for the first time in 2022. These are the things that can happen when you raise your viewership by 25% week-over-week.
The ascension of Diana pushed Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes out of the top spot in our U.S. Top 50, but the animation hub did not fall far. It landed in the #2 position, which means it has been either the leader or the runner-up in all of our U.S. charts this year. Its all-ages approach brought it 542 million weekly views, and there are no other U.S.-based channels in Cocomelon’s stratosphere when it comes to lifetime views. The popular YouTube channel has brought in 127.3 billion hits all time.
The other surprise in this week’s U.S. top five comes at the #3 position. LeoNata Family is a new face in our star-spangled ranking, even though the channel began posting YouTube Shorts clips last September and has received 7.5 billion lifetime views since then. LeoNata’s family-friendly content was a huge hit this week, reeling in 400 million weekly views and securing a place as the top YouTube Shorts channel in our U.S. Top 50.
Another family channel, Like Nastya, finished fourth in this week’s U.S. Top 50. (Spoiler alert: All of the channels in the top five appeal to YouTube’s youngest users.) Nastya’s latest seven-day totals included 347.4 million weekly views and enough new subscribers to surpass the 91 million mark. Not bad for a kid with a winning smile and a budding musical career.
D Billions rounds out our most-recent U.S. top five. The percussive, colorful children’s channel teaches its viewers how to count and sing. Here’s a number to count: 309.6 million weekly views. I’m sure the D Billions crew will be working on that task for a while.
There’s plenty of content on YouTube Shorts for kids, but what about adults who still feel like kids? BuzzFeed has long appealed to the archetypical “arrested development Millennial,” and one of the media company’s channels, The Land of Boggs, found it into our U.S. Top 50 this week.
The titular Land is populated by these cute little blobby creatures with loving attitudes and emotive personalities. The Streamy-nominated project got its start on TikTok, but it has now come to YouTube, where it received 85.9 million views last week. That was good for a 24% week-over-week increase that pushed Boggs and co. up to 41st place in our U.S. Top 50.
So what sort of animation is BuzzFeed delivering to the Shorts audience? The channel’s most-watched YouTube video features an adult Boggs-ian who is still reliant on its mom. Right behind that is a clip about a Boggo hosting a party. If those aren’t stunted Millennial concerns, I don’t know what is.
At the same time, there are probably some actual kids watching this content. The embedded video above is titled “Mom the rescue,” and the m-word is a favorite of YouTube’s youngest set.
This week, there are 27 YouTube Shorts channels in the U.S. Top 50.
