The land of the free contributes the most channels to our newest Global Top 50, with 21. At the top of the chart, however, India — and one of its largest record labels in particular — continue to rule.
Chart Toppers
At the start of 2022, T-Series spent a short bit of time outside of the #1 spot in this chart, but lately, the music and movie hub has been back at the top and there to stay. During our most up-to-date measurement period, T-Series recorded 893.8 million weekly views. That created a gap between #1 and #2 that is larger than the gap between any other channels in the top 50.
Said #2 channel is Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes. The global runner-up had an impressive week, even if it finished about 180 million views behind T-Series in the count. Over seven days, the American producer of children’s content amassed 712.7 million weekly views, which topped all other channels based in the United States.
The third-place position in the Global Top 50 goes to SET India, the Sony-owned channel that serves an audience of TV fans in South Asia. By offering up everything from period romances to talk shows, SET India serves a wide variety of viewers, which helps explain the impressive numbers it has accumulated. During the last week of January, SET India snagged 672.5 million weekly views.
Up fourth is Kids Diana Show. With cheery clips that star young Diana and her brother Roma, this channel has established itself as one of the top destinations for family content in the entire world. The U.S.-based hub picked up 519.3 million weekly views, which allowed it to end January as one of four channels above the half-billion mark.
Rounding out this week’s global top five is another Sony-owned, India-based channel. Sony SAB, which offers up all sort of TV programming but focuses on comedy in particular, reeled in 493.5 million weekly views to complete a top five that was unchanged from the previous week.
Top Gainers
Speaking of Indian comedy, let’s talk about the Kukrejas.
If you pay close attention to these charts, you’ve likely noticed the regular presence of Dushyant Kukreja, an Indian funnyman whose sketches routinely power him into the Global Top 50. With his impressive head of hair and his 8.6 million YouTube subscribers, he’s a big star — but is he even the most popular creator in his own family?
Dushyant’s younger sister, Priyal Kukreja, made it into the Global Top 50 this week. Her channel is newer than her brother’s, but this week, she actually surpassed him, finishing four spots higher than him in the ranking. This is the most stunning battle between the Kukreja siblings since the time they competed to see who could get more free chocolate at the convenience store.
Perhaps Priyal’s easy success can be partially attributed to her brother’s existing audience, but that hasn’t stopped her from posting some impressive numbers. She reached 22nd place in the Global Top 50 by adding 236.2 million weekly views. That figure, which is a 76% increase over her previous weekly total, brought her lifetime YouTube viewership above one billion.
But I still have more questions like, “which sibling is the better Sorry! player?” That was always the big rivalry in my family, though it seems as though the Kukrejas have concerns that are far different from mine.
