Jay-Z Finally Joins Instagram To Promote New Netflix Film

Yet another noteworthy holdout has succumbed to the pressures of the ‘Gram.

Rap icon and entrepreneur Jay-Z launched an account on the Facebook-owned social service yesterday, shortly after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame over the weekend.

Jay-Z’s account has already racked up 2.1 million followers in roughly 16 hours. He only follows one other account — his wife, Beyoncé — and has only shared one post: an image from the upcoming Netflix feature The Harder They Fall, for which Jay-Z serves as a producer and musical contributor.

While Jay-Z is mostly quiet on social media, he does operate a Twitter account (3 million followers), given that he’s a close friend and business associate of founder Jack Dorsey. In March, Dorsey’s Square acquired Jay-Z’s streaming service, Tidal, for a reported $300 million.

Instagram has similarly made headlines after onboarding other iconic celebrities, including David Attenboroguh — who departed the platform shortly after becoming its fastest creator to garner 1 million followers. He accomplished the feat in just under five hours, besting a record previously set by Jennifer Aniston. That title reportedly now belongs to Angelina Jolie.
