Spotify is making good on an earlier vow — rolling out video podcasting to everyone through its creation platform Anchor, as teased during its Stream On event in February.
Spotify first launched video podcasts with select YouTuber–hosted shows and other exclusive titles — including The Ringer’s Higher Learning and The Joe Rogan Experience — last year. Now, other noted creators will onboard, including Jasmine Chiswell, The WAN Show, and Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald. “Shortly,” video podcasts will open wide, Spotify says, and creators can apply for access right here.
“Spotify offers video creators an entirely new audience opportunity — of 365 million monthly listeners — to expand their reach,” Michael Mignano, Spotify’s head of creation platform, said in a statement. “And, with background listening, they can provide multiple experiences in a single piece of content, making their work more flexible and engaging for their audience.”

After video podcasts are fully rolled out, Spotify says it will extend monetization features to video podcasts as well.
In August, for instance, Spotify rolled out the option for audio podcasters in the U.S. to paywall exclusive content — which will arrive on video imminently, as will Anchor’s existing suite of advertising tools.
In order to create a video podcast, creators simply upload their files to Anchor. Video podcasts are available on the Spotify mobile and desktop apps, its web player, and most smart TVs and video game consoles.
