In an age where short-form videos allow their creators to secure top spots in our Tubefilter Charts, it helps if your content has a good punchline. And what genre offers better rimshots than the prank video?

The #1 channel in this week’s global top 50 uses practical jokes to great effect. Further down the chart, some other creators have opted for a more inspirational brand of content, which has secured them their own spates of viewership.
Chart Toppers
The pranksters at the top of the YouTube ladder this week are Marta and Rustam. The US-based couple came over from TikTok earlier in 2021 and have since found tremendous success on the YouTube Shorts platform, where the tricks they play on each other routinely pull in millions of views. In our latest count, Marta and Rustam snagged 531.9 million weekly views, which allowed them to rise from sixth place in the world all the way up to the #1 spot.
Another channel with a good grasp on YouTube Shorts is LankyBox, which finished in second place over our most recent measurement period. The American channel achieved its high chart position thanks to its 517.4 million weekly views, which came across a combination of short-form and long-form videos in categories like gaming and sketch comedy.
The only other channel to surpass 500 million views this week attracts eyeballs with videos that would be a little long for YouTube Shorts or TikTok. Sony SAB, an Indian channel that provides TV content to South Asian consumers, landed in the #3 spot after snagging 508.9 million weekly views. Though that was less traffic than what the channel pulled in a week prior, it was still enough for Sony SAB to stick in its previous chart position.
T-Series dropped down to fourth place this week. The Indian record label, which has led this ranking dozens if not hundreds of times, added another 475.4 million weekly views to its impressive tally. With that fresh influx of traffic, T-Series crossed an impressive threshold, claiming 165 billion lifetime views. That’s the most of any channel in this chart.
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes rounds out a global top five that consists entirely of American and Indian channels. The California-based hub used its kid-friendly animations to register 412.6 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
This week, 36 of the channels in the global top 50 fly one of two flags: The American stars and stripes or the Indian tricolor. As we saw a few weeks ago, when we profiled the prolific rise of Dushyant Kukreja, it is possible to gain a lot of views very quickly by comparing the United States to India, or by bringing one nation’s concepts to the other.
Shivam Malik caters his short-form videos to the Indian YouTube audience, but he sometimes incorporates ideas from other cultures in order to populate his channel with “informational and motivational” content.
Consider, for example, the Shivam Malik joint that has received more YouTube views than any other: It is a 30-second clip, filmed in the style of a TikTok clip, in which Malik outlines the “4-7-8” sleep technique used by members of the U.S. military. The response to the video has been extraordinary, as it has claimed more than 23 million views and helped Malik bring more than two million subscribers to his channel.
During the third week of September, Malik had his best week yet on YouTube. The Indian creator picked up 136.8 million weekly views, which propelled him from 134th place in the world all the way up to the #48 spot in our global top 50. His latest viewership represents a 65% week-over-week traffic bump, which is nothing to sniff at. If Malik can soar that high, so can you — just think of his success as motivation.
