Police Find Remains That Appear Consistent With Missing ‘Van Life’ Vlogger Gabby Petito

Police have found remains that appear to be “consistent with the description of” Gabby Petito, a van life vlogger who went missing earlier this month in a case that has garnered national attention. An autopsy will be conducted this week to confirm the identity of the remains, per CNN.

22-year-old Petito had been visiting various national parks with her fiance, Brain Laundrie, 23, and documenting their experiences on YouTube as well as their respective Instagram accounts. On Sept. 1, Laundrie returned home to Florida without Petito. Petito’s family reported her missing on Sept. 11. The remains were found at the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park, according to CNN.

Police in Florida are currently looking for Petito’s fiance, Laundrie, who — in something of a chilling twist — has now gone missing himself. He has not been seen since Sept. 14, after reportedly heading to a nearby nature reserve in Florida. Prior to his disappearance, Laundrie declined to speak to police — as did his parents — instead routing all inquiries through a family lawyer. The Laundrie family has also declined to speak to the Petito family about the case.

CNN notes that Laundrie is not currently wanted for a crime, though he is a person of interest.

In something of a foreboding encounter, police were called to speak with the couple on Aug. 12 in Utah, after a witness saw the couple verbally and physically fighting and called 911. However, at the time, neither wished to pursue charges, according to a police report, and no charges were filed.
