TikTok is jumping on the Stories bandwagon.
The ByteDance-owned app is piloting a small test of the format in various markets outside of the U.S., Variety reports — though the company said it’s possible Stories may not be permanently integrated. Stories, as first popularized by Snapchat, will function in the same vein on TikTok, vanishing after 24 hours.
“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a TikTok spokesperson told Variety. “Currently we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community.”

In yet another format expansion, TikTok tripled the maximum length of posts to three minutes in July.
Like Stories, the TikTok format has been widely copied across the social media ecosphere, including by Snapchat (via Spotlight), Instagram Reels, Twitter’s now-defunct Fleets feature, and YouTube Shorts — which just unveiled a $100 million fund to compensate creators.
The TikTok Stories test was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra.
