Green Brothers Kick Off Annual 48-Hour ‘Project For Awesome’ Charity Stream

YouTube icons and celebrated authors John and Hank Green have launched today their annual-ish, 14-year-old charity stream, which is dubbed Project For Awesome (P4A).

This year’s event will benefit Partners in Health, Save The Children, and other organizations as selected by the Green brothers’ online community. (Their VlogBrothers channel counts 3.4 million subscribers and garners 4 million monthly views). Over the course of the next 48 hours, the guys will welcome special guests like Flula Borg, Raven The Science Maven, Anna Akana, Patrick Rothfuss, and Taylor Behnke. The event will also features sock puppet theater performances, dancing, interactive moments with both brothers, and more — with different perks being unveiled over the weekend to drive donations.

The stream is being powered by creator-focused fundraising platform Tiltify — the first time that P4A has partnered with the service. Though the event will conclude on Sunday at 11:59 am ET, donations will continue to be collected right here through Dec. 16. At press time, $247,000 has been raised of a $300,000 goal.

Partners In Health seeks to bring health care to vulnerable communities globally, while Save The Children provides a multitude of services for kids, including education, health care, economic opportunity, and emergency aid amid war and natural disaster.

“For more than a decade, the Project for Awesome has been my favorite part of the year,” Hank said in a statement. “It’s been really wonderful that charity live streams have become more common, especially because it means that tools like Tiltify have been created specifically to support them.”

The Green brothers founded P4A in 2007, and the venture has raised roughly $12 million to date. In 2020, an event wasn’t held, as the brothers opted to move the date of the stream from late December to Presidents’ Day weekend. You can check it out below:
