The arrival of a new calendar year did not bring any major shake-ups to our ranking of the top 50 most-viewed US-based YouTube channels to the week, but for the chart’s top channels, there was a large influx of fresh viewership. All of the channels that reached the top ten in this week’s American ranking saw their traffic increase over the previous week, with a Southern California-based animation producer continuing to lead the way.
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes started off the new year in the same way it finished the old one. The destination for kid-friendly jingles received more views than any other US-based channel during our most-recent seven-day measurement period. In total, it earned 785.7 million weekly views; no other channel flying the American flag earned even 75% of that total.
This week’s runner-up also held the same chart position it occupied last week. Kids Diana Show placed #2 among all US-based channels thanks to 544.4 million weekly views. The Ukranian-American family vlog is on pace to surpass 50 billion lifetime views before the end of January.
The only changes in this week’s American top five came in the third and fourth positions, with third-place finisher Like Nastya supplanting Vlad and Niki and bumping it down to fourth. The flip-flopping of the two Russian-American vlogs is the result of a massive week for Like Nastya, during which it rode a 26% week-over-week viewership bump to reach 500.7 million weekly views. Vlad and Niki, relegated to fourth, still compiled a respectable total of 446.1 million weekly views.
And once again, Toys and Colors rounded out the American top five. The early education destination maintained its previous chart position thanks to 305.8 million weekly views.
This week’s featured Top Gainer is a children’s channel whose formula should look familiar by now. Cute animal characters? Check. 20+ minute videos, released just about every day? Check. Tens of millions of views per day? You bet. VexTrex has been a regular in our US-only chart over its past few iterations, and this week, it boasted 81.9 million weekly views, which was 17% more views than what it received during our previous measurement period. Bolstered by those big numbers, VexTrex ended up in 32nd place in our US chart, up from 42nd a week ago.
The short animated clips that are compiled together to form VexTrex’s long-form uploads often feature a central theme, as well as a lion family that serves as the channel’s stars. The channel’s most popular new upload of the week, for example, offers several different ideas about vehicular safety, which a small green creature — the Goofus to the lion family’s Gallant — learning what happens when you don’t buckle your seatbelt on an airplane.
And in case you’re worried that VexTrex is promoting too much travel during a time when staying put is the best way to curb the global spread of COVID-19, fear not. Another new video on the channel promotes the virtue of public mask-wearing, thus allowing VexTrex and its lion family to use their massive platform for good.
