Vimeo is revamping user profiles site-wide in a bid to help video professionals better nail down job prospects. Profiles will now allow creatives to feature information — such as price rates and previous professional experience — as well as to tag brands and businesses that they’ve worked with previously.
Vimeo says it’s rolling out the redesign with the coronavirus pandemic in mind, given that many creative freelancers within its community are struggling to find work.
“In speaking with members of the Vimeo community about your goals as video professionals, it’s clear that you need tools to help you showcase your incredible work and get discovered,” the company wrote in a blog post. “We want your Vimeo profile to be your professional home.”
Other changes include: the ability to edit profiles directly on profile pages, meaning users no longer have to dig into settings; new profile sections so that users can feature videos in various grid formats, including horizontal, vertical, and square; and 40 new industry-specific category tags (such as ‘healthcare’, ‘music videos’, ‘fitness’) that allow potential employers to sort through work. Vimeo is also placing contact info front and center, it says — such as web domain, social handles, email addresses, and pronouns.
This is far from Vimeo’s first move to help users boost their professional prospects. Last September, the company launched For Hire — a global marketplace to link up the platform’s 100,000 freelancers (in fields like editing, animation, DP, and beyond) with prospective employers. Paid Vimeo subscribers can opt into the For Hire marketplace for free, the company notes, whereupon they can search for available jobs, submit their portfolios, respond to messages, and more. The company also tapped filmmakers to spotlight pandemic-stricken businesses with its ‘Stories In Place‘ series in April.
