YouTube Pacts With Geoff Keighley For Exclusive ‘Summer Game Fest’ Programming

Amid the cancellation of highly-anticipated gaming events this summer in the shadow of the the coronavirus pandemic, industry vet Geoff Keighley has spearheaded the launch of Summer Game Fest — an all-digital event comprising tournaments and blockbuster gaming announcements that’s set to run through the months of June and July, featuring participation from some of the industry’s top publishers and players.

And after Twitch launched a new, dedicated channel on its platform for coverage of the festivities, YouTube is getting in on the action. Today, Keighley (the creator of The Game Awards) and YouTube announced that they will pact on four hours of exclusive Summer Game Fest content. The exclusive programming will complement other Summer Game Fest content that will continue to be distributed on YouTube via TheGameAwards channel.

Dubbed Summer Game Fest Live On YouTube Gaming, the exclusive programming will kick off tomorrow at 3 pm ET, surrounding the announcement of PlayStation’s brand new console, the PlayStation 5. Before the console announcement on PlayStation’s channel, Keighley and top YouTube Gaming creators — including Ali-A, JackSepticEye, Laurenzside, Lamarr Wilson, and MatPat —  will sit down to share their favorite PlayStation memories. Additionally, a Summer Game Fest playlist can be found here with all current and upcoming events. Programming will culminate on Gamescom: Opening Night Live — a digital version of the axed gaming event that is set to stream on Aug. 27.

Keighley boasts a longstanding relationship with YouTube. For five years, he has hosted Live At E3 programming on the platform. (E3 has also been axed this year due to coronavirus).

“For the past six years, YouTube has worked with Geoff to bring some of the biggest gaming industry events to a broader audience using the power of our platform,” Ryan Wyatt, YouTube’s head of gaming, said in a statement. “While physical events this year transition to digital, it’s comforting to know that we still have Geoff to guide us through the biggest industry announcements, and we’re excited to add our unique YouTube flavor via creators from around the world.”
