How long will it be before a YouTube channel receives one billion views in a single week? If our data is to be believed that day may not be so far in the future. A children’s entertainment juggernaut has now crossed the 900 million view benchmark, which means that a notable ten-digit achievement may be just around the corner.
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes scooped up a total of 905 million views this week, which was more than enough for the California-based animation studio to once again register as the most-viewed YouTube channel in the world. T-Series, the once-undisputed champion of these Tubefilter charts, must remain for now in second place, where the 733 million views it counted this week are both well short of Cocomelon’s YouTube leading total and well ahead of #3 finisher Kids Diana Show, which hopped up two spots after collecting 583 million views this week. With 150 million view gaps on either side of T-Series, we won’t be surprised if the Indian entertainment hub remains as our runner-up for the foreseeable future.
Beyond the top two spots, the chart tightens considerably. Kids Diana Show’s total is only a fraction better than the viewership accrued by Like Nastya, which fell from third to fourth after picking up 574.9 million views over the measured period. That total was an 11% dip from the previous week; meanwhile, over the same timeframe, the top three channels in the chart all saw their viewership accelerate by at least 5%.
Rounding out the top five is SET India, which dropped one spot from its previous chart position. The Sony-owned South Asian channel received 569 million views this week.
Long ago, when 630 million views was all it took to top our Tubefilter charts, ABS-CBN was a staple in our global top five, cementing its status as one of the most-viewed YouTube channels in the world. Since then, the official YouTube home of the largest media conglomerate in the Philippines has been in and out of our top 50, and this week, it was very much in, riding a 21% viewership increase to the 32nd position on our worldwide ranking. In total, the Southeast Asian video hub received 142 million views over the past seven days, a significant total that is still less than half of the viewership the channel used to pull when it ranked among our top five.
What has driven ABS-CBN’s growth? Its status as a news source has certainly helped. We’ve seen in our US charts that TV networks like NBC News, ABC News, and FOX News have made their way up our weekly ranking thanks in large part to the coronavirus coverage they’ve offered digital consumers. For a Filipino audience, ABS-CBN has offered the same service. It recently broadcast a live stream featuring Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte, who delivered an address regarding his country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
