Channels aimed at children continue to dominate our Tubefilter charts, and in line with that trend, a California-based animation studio that appeals to families retained its hold on our global ranking’s top spot. Meanwhile, a notable Indian entertainment hub had to settle for second for the fourth week in a row.
Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes saw its viewership drop 4% from the YouTube-leading 879 million view total it registered in our previous chart, but the 834.2 billion views the studio collected during our most recent week-long measurement period was still enough to make it the most-watched YouTube channel of the week. Cocomelon has opened up a lead of more than 200 million views over the second-place finished T Series, which continues to see its view numbers fluctuate as it deletes or hides some videos. The Indian channel pulled in 610.5 million views this week, which was good enough for the #2 spot but also represented a 21% drop from its previous charted tally.
Three other channel also crossed the 500 million view threshold this week, and they are hot on T-Series’ heels. SET India took the #3 spot with 578.2 million views this week; the Sony-owned hub was the only channel in the top five to increase the rate of its viewership over the past seven days. Family vlog Like Nastya earned fourth place with 575.7 million views this week, just a fraction less than SET India’s total. After a drop of 19 million views, our chart reaches its #5 position, which is held by Kids Diana Show. The toddler-facing destination scooped up 556.7 million views over the measured period.
Brazil has long been one of the online video industry’s hotbeds, and this week, three Brazilian creators found their way into our global chart. The biggest gainer among those South American world-beaters was Marília Mendonça, a powerful 24-year-old singer who brought 127.2 million views to her channel this week. Mendonça improved her viewership by 157% week-over-week and rose from 234th place to 36th. The cause of this increase was a live stream hosted by the Brazilian songstress on April 8; during a three-and-a-half hour event, Mendonça performed from her home and interacted with fans, drawing 52.3 million views in the process. A bit of text in the upper right-hand corner of the screen instructed viewers to “Fique em casa e cante #comigo” — stay home and sing with me.
