United Talent Agency (UTA) has signed Recode cofounder Kara Swisher for representation across all areas.
Swisher is a longtime tech journalist who’s written for the Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. While at the WSJ, she and coworker Walt Mossberg launched the outlet’s tech/startup confab D: All Things Digital Conference, as well as an associated news site, AllThingsD.com. In 2013, they left WSJ together to launch Recode, which similarly covers tech and business news.
Recode went on to receive $10 million in funding from NBCUniversal and Windsor Media, and was projected to make $12 million in 2015, mostly generated by its own industry confab, Code. That year, it was acquired by Vox in an all-stock deal reportedly worth $15 to $20 million.

Swisher is currently co-executive editor at Recode, and has broadened its offerings to include a slate of podcasts and multiple annual events (both under and outside of the Code umbrella). The site focuses on Silicon Valley venture capitalism and probes into the nuanced and not-always-so-great world of modern tech. It’s also produced a primetime interview series for MSNBC and dabbles in digital video on it YouTube channel, where it has 192K subscribers.
UTA will work with Swisher on opportunities in digital, publishing, news and broadcast, film and television, securing speaking engagements, and other business areas, an agency spokesperson told Variety.
UTA represents a number of other media personalities, including Dan Abrams, Brooke Baldwin, Rebecca Jarvis, Dana Bash, Anderson Cooper, Jodi Kantor, Don Lemon, Meghan McCain, David Muir, Norah O’Donnell, Kate Snow, Brian Stelter, Jake Tapper, and Chuck Todd.
