In a week where most people in the United States were advised to stay inside in order to limit the spread of coronavirus, most of the YouTube channels that ranked in the top 50 in our US-based charts saw their viewership rise over the previous week. The top portion of the chart, however, remained mostly unchanged.
Thanks to a temporary blip on the T-Series radar, Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes took the number-one spot in our latest global chart. Of course, that means the California-based children’s animation studio was also the most-viewed channel in the US over that period. Its 749.9 million views put it nearly 70 million weekly views clear of the number-two spot, held by Like Nastya Vlog. Rounding out an entirely kid-focused top three is Kids Diana Show, which rustled up 553.1 million views over the measured period.
Movieclips dropped down to the #4 spot among US-based channels, but still had a strong week overall. The film content hub, headquartered in Los Angeles, picked up 365.8 million views during the past seven days, which was good for a 6% increase over our last round of charts. The final channel to crack the top five was Vlad and Nikita, another family-friendly mainstay in our measurements. The Floridian vlog saw its viewership rise by 23% over the previous week, leaving it with an impressive 325.6 million views.
Last week, podcaster Joe Rogan saw his standing in our US-based charts rise thanks to a few clips that provided information about the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. This week, one of the chart’s Top Gainers is NBC News, which has been posting several coronavirus-related videos each day. Full episodes of the NBC Nightly News have proved particularly popular, with several of them gathering more than two million views.
In total, NBC News tallied 65.4 million views during the latest chart timeframe, which is good for a week-over-week increase of 89%. The network hopped from 85th place among US channels all the way up to 27th, just one spot behind the official YouTube home of one of its programs: The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Those sorts of numbers are usually reserved for general entertainment hubs, children’s video channels, and a handful of gamers, but when a crisis such as this one arises, it’s not surprising to see news broadcasters pulling in major views. In our latest global chart, it was an Indian TV hub that saw its YouTube viewership go upward. In America, it was The Peacock that was a Top Gainer.
