YouTube vet, comedian, and author Akilah Hughes has officially joined the Crooked Media family — a podcast network co-founded by three former Obama staffers (Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor), that is behind hit shows like Pod Save America, Lovett Or Leave It, and Keep It.
Hughes, who has previously contributed to other Crooked programming, will team up with political journalist Gideon Resnick (formerly of The Daily Beast) to host What A Day — Crooked’s first-ever daily news podcast that will purportedly contextualize the day’s news in a mere 15 to 20 minutes, and give listeners actionable insights about what can be done. This includes online resources, petitions, and fundraising opportunities — and is a key component of Crooked’s overarching philosophy. The company has helped raise millions of dollars to fight gerrymandering, take back the Senate for the Democrats, and support the eventual 2020 Democratic presidential nominee.
What A Day will bow on Oct. 28 at 5 am ET, and will cover politics, business, economics, and pop culture, supplemented by both pertinent clips and occasional interviews. The series will be available on all podcast platforms — including Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Play Podcasts, and TuneIn — with occasional video material on Crooked’s YouTube channel and its other social media destinations.

“In a time where our democracy is being hit from all sides, we want What A Day to be a daily boon for knowledge, conversation, and most importantly, action,” Sarah Geismer, Crooked’s head of development and production, said in a statement. “As we’ve seen with our other podcast properties, audio has proven to be an incredibly useful tool to not only share stories, but to make people feel involved and that they’re not sitting on the sidelines.”
What A Day is also the name of a still-ongoing nightly newsletter launched by Crooked in 2017.
